Well, RedHat Inc is the only Open Source software company which has crossed Billion USD mark and has been registering profit as well since its previous 2 billion USD mark. So, the folks are major leagues and know quite well what they do. RedHat Enterprise Linux clone called Scientific Linux is being used to perform all the computing at CERN laboratories, which is tremendous load, let me tell you. Besides this, Oracle Enterprise Linux itself has emerged as a major player in Enterprise OS market and it too is a RHEL clone. Why RedHat enterprise Linux? Or why any enterprise linux at all? So, enterprises have several operations like websites, ERP servers, SAP for accounts division, setting up and extending storage for newer offices, constant periodic backing up all these servers as well etc need an operating system which has to do a lot more than your average OS X or some Windows Pro or Ultimate.
